Which style of trip is right for me?

Before your next adventure, choose the destination you want to travel to. Our app will guide you through selected filters that will determine your travel itinerary. If you are new to the travel scene, choose the basic level, if you have already done some trips, consider yourself an advanced traveler. Depending on your selection, you’ll be able to choose between customized routes that match your interests.

Basic vs. Advanced

Our app will ask you about your level of travel experience. You will be able to choose between the basic or advanced level. Here, the basic level implies that you can navigate on touristic routes with a touristic infrastructure (such as frequent (tourist) busses, shuttles, pre-organized tours, more international hotel and restaurant options, etc.). The advanced level presupposes that travelers will be able to move off the beaten path by taking local busses or other public transportation to attractions or destinations and may find more limited choices of local accommodations or restaurants. If you prefer a more comfortable way of traveling, choose the basic level. If you feel more adventurous and want to dive deeper into a country’s culture and encounter local experiences, choose the advanced level.

The route selection

Everyone is different – and that’s great. At Guide2Globe, we understand that interests vary. Therefore, our routes include different attractions and destinations depending on the travel theme you choose. For a balanced travel experience, our routes also contain some of the country’s highlights or destinations that cover more than one type of interest. This way you can make the most of your trip without missing out on anything, and if you are traveling with a partner, a group, or your family, everyone will find something to their liking.

Solo travel, group travel, family travel

Whether you choose to explore the globe alone, with your loved one, a group of friends, or your family, Guide2Globe has something for every traveler’s heart. With a balanced route selection, there’s something for everyone on your trip without missing out on the highlights. Our travel guide provides various attractions near your current destination so you can always choose the best option for you, including family tips, romantic getaways, or a fun party. We suggest choosing a travel theme that fits most of your travel companions. So why not have a pre-travel get-together to select a route while spending some quality time with your beloved ones and getting excited for your next adventure together?

Can I change the route?

After going through the filters in the app and choosing your theme-based route, you will get the suggestion for your travel itinerary. If it doesn’t meet your expectations, you can simply select another route and get a new itinerary. We recommend doing this before you start your adventure.

Another option is to customize your route. To do this, click on “Customize” and add a destination to your favorites. You can then see it in the “Favorites” list and jump to the destination’s map and travel guide, but it won’t automatically be included in your itinerary, since our itineraries are carefully composed based on location and travel time. We hereby give you the option to mark it as a reminder that you want to include the selected destination in your itinerary, but you must decide when or if to include it during your trip.

Since we only suggest an itinerary, you can always decide if you want to follow it while you are traveling. In the case you skip a destination on your itinerary (for example, because you stay longer in another place or you don’t like the suggested location) you jump to the next destination on your travel itinerary. This may affect the travel time and way of traveling due to the greater distance between the locations (spending a longer time on the bus, the option of taking a flight, bus, train, or ferry connection, etc.), but you will be able to catch up with your travel plans.

What does every route contain?

Our routes are carefully composed based on location and travel time and follow the travel theme you have chosen. Every destination on your itinerary will give you access to its map and travel guide, where you can choose from different attractions or activities you are interested in. Since we want you to have a balanced travel experience, touristic highlights or destinations that cover more than one type of interest are also included in the route. This way you can make the most of your trip without missing out on anything, and if you are traveling with a partner, a group, or your family, everyone will find something to their liking.

Traveling with disability

We believe that traveling is possible for everyone. However, a disability may affect the way you travel. We recommend choosing the basic travel experience level and a route that requires less physical activity. At most destinations that have tourist infrastructure, pre-organized tours and shuttle services can almost always be arranged. Booking websites for accommodation can be filtered for disability options. A great way to explore multiple attractions in one day or to visit more secluded places can be to hire a private taxi (your host or hotel staff can help you find a reliable taxi or person). Make sure you agree on the price before you take it. Please check in advance if the destinations on your itinerary are suitable for your type of disability.

Transportation

Once you’ve decided on an adventure and put together an itinerary, it’s time to think about transportation. To find out what means of transportation are available in the country you are traveling to, see the “Information > Transportation” section in your guide. Since Guide2Globe only provides your travel itinerary, the choice of transportation is up to you.

As a rule of thumb, public transportation is always cheaper and takes more time than private transportation. Depending on your budget and travel time, you should decide on the best way to get around. For long-distance travel, night buses, fast trains, or domestic flights are best to save valuable travel time. If you are more experienced and have more time on your hands, you can rely on local transportation, but make sure to check the connection before you get stranded somewhere. To get around a city or get to nearby attractions, it may be faster and cheaper to share a taxi, tuk-tuk, etc., or use a cab service app. If you are traveling alone, you can use local public transportation to get around and save some money. In any case, it is always helpful to ask your host, hotel staff, or other travelers on site for information about transportation options and visit the bus or train station to find the latest schedules.

Can I choose the same thematic route for beginners or advanced travel?

As mentioned earlier, part of your personal travel experience is choosing your travel skills, followed by the route selection in our filter section. When you choose your travel skills, you won’t miss out on any themed route option. Each route is offered in the basic and advanced options. While the basic version focuses on more accessible and touristy places, the advanced version can take you off the beaten path and requires more planning on your part, such as arranging more difficult transportation options, staying at a campsite, etc.

Tours

While some travelers enjoy more flexibility, others prefer an organized tour. In almost every place with tourist infrastructure, there are tour operators offering day trips, shuttle services, guided tours, and much more. Ask a local for recommendations or check the internet before booking a tour to be sure what to expect and compare prices. Check out our guide for information on day trips and tours that are typically offered at your destination.

Where do I find essential information about the country I am traveling to?

Guide2Globe provides a general information section in the app where you can find important information about a country’s language, which food to try, which souvenirs to bring, how to behave in the culture, visas, transportation options, safety tips, and the best time to visit.

What do I have to do before leaving for my trip?

Before you book your flights or accommodation, make sure you meet all visa requirements. Once that is cleared, you can apply for a visa, book your flights and, if you want to plan ahead, book your accommodation. We recommend that you book your accommodation during your trip to be more flexible. However, always book the first night of your trip so you have a place to go upon arrival. Find out about travel (medical) insurance. Take at least two credit cards with you in case one gets blocked or stolen. Download a currency converter to get an idea of the local currency. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months before your travel date. Organize your arrival at your destination airport in advance, as cabs often commit fraud, especially at night. There may be public transportation or shuttle buses from the airport to the city center.

What should I bring on my trip?

As a rule of thumb, the lighter you travel, the more flexible you are. For maximum flexibility, travel with a backpack. Always pack according to the destination and activities you plan to do. Remember that the climate may change depending on your travel plans (e.g. temperature drop in the mountains or at night, travel in summer, winter or rainy season, etc.). Don’t pack too much! You always can wash your clothes during the trip or buy missing things.

Check out the ultimate Guide2Globe packing checklist to be fully prepared for your next adventure!

Special needs?

Inform yourself before you book or start your trip. Information on medical and safety issues can be found on the Internet. Tips about traveling with a disability can be found above.

Upon arrival at your destination

Organize your arrival at your destination airport in advance, as cabs often commit fraud, especially at night. There may be public transportation or shuttle buses from the airport to the city center. Many accommodations offer shuttle services from or to the airport. You may get a sim card and exchange or withdraw the local currency to have some cash on hand before leaving the airport.

Why do I need a travel budget?

Set a daily budget or an overall budget for your travel to avoid an unpleasant surprise at the end of the trip. On independent trips, there may be costs you didn’t expect (e.g. taking a cab at night, an activity you want to try, etc.) Choose your accommodation and visit restaurants according to your daily budget.

How do I communicate with the locals?

It’s always helpful to be able to communicate in the local language. Check out the information panel “Language” in the app to learn the most commonly used words like “thank you”, “hello”, and “goodbye”. You will be surprised by the friendly reactions of people. Do not be afraid to communicate with hands and feet if necessary, there will always be someone who understands what you need.

Which accommodation should I book?

Depending on where you are traveling and what your budget is, there are a variety of accommodation options. Hostels, homestays, and basic hotel rooms, as well as shared apartments (e.g. on Airbnb) or campsites, can be a cheap way to spend the night and get in touch with other travelers or locals. More comfortable and private, but also more expensive, are hotel rooms, entire studios, apartments, and cabins. It all depends on your travel preference and budget. Search the booking platforms for your best options.

How do I get around?

Public transportation is always the cheapest way to get around. Be brave and try it out – once you figure out how to take the bus, train, or tuk-tuk, you will save a lot of money and get in touch with the locals. Observe the locals to learn how to use public transportation (when and how to pay, how to stop a bus, etc.). Be careful with taxis. In many cities, there are cab service apps that are cheaper and safer to use. Where there are tourists, there are also always shuttle services that are more convenient, faster, and more expensive. If you feel more comfortable with this or have trouble walking, arrange a shuttle service to your next destination. This also applies to tours to attractions you want to visit.

How can I book a tour?

While some travelers enjoy more flexibility, others prefer an organized tour. In almost every place with tourist infrastructure, there are tour operators offering day trips, shuttle services, guided tours, and much more. Ask a local for recommendations or check the internet before booking a tour to be sure what to expect and compare prices. Check out our guide for information on day trips and tours that are typically offered at your destination.

Our personalized travel guide

Guide2Globe offers the first travel tool that has it all. An app, that is trip planner, travel guide, and offline map all in one. Build your personalized travel experience according to your travel vibe with the Guide2Globe app by running through our selected filters. The handy offline map that shows attractions near you and our travel guide for each destination provide you with just the information you need to make the most of your adventure. Due to the design of our guide, you only read what you are interested in. Our general information section in the app provides important information about the country you’re visiting, such as a small language guide, information on what food to try, what transportation to use, and much more. A useful packing checklist in the app makes packing for your big trip now easier than ever.

Guide2Globe provides more useful travel information on the website and in the FAQs. Guide2Globe offers a platform, where you can exchange ideas with other travelers from the community in the Guide2Globe travel forum.

Why does Guide2Globe not offer bookings?

At Guide2Globe, we provide a travel tool that allows you to follow an interest-based itinerary while giving you access to essential information about the country you are visiting, a travel guide, and an offline map to find the best attractions near you. However, Guide2Globe is not a booking platform and we do not offer bookings of flights, hotels, or tours, nor do we receive any commission for them. We understand that every traveler has their own needs and budget, so we believe it is best to give everyone the freedom to choose what they need and like.

Why does Guide2Globe not give recommendations for hotels, restaurants, and tours?

As mentioned above, Guide2Globe does not receive any commissions for bookings or recommendations. We want to remain independent of advertisement and give you the information you need. At Guide2Globe, we believe that every traveler should have the freedom to choose their options based on their budget, travel style, taste, and travel time. In the information section and travel guide, Guide2Globe gives general recommendations on what food to try or what area to stay in, and what type of tours are most commonly offered at a destination. In some cases, recommendations are given about famous or historical establishments such as special bars, stores, etc., as well as information about accommodation in a remote location (e.g. the only campsite in a national park), which we do not want to deprive you of. In today’s world, things are changing rapidly, pandemics occur, and the modern traveler has developed a wide range of travel styles, eating habits, and ethical beliefs (e.g., is a visit to elephant camps in Thailand still ethical?). Guide2Globe, therefore, does not make specific recommendations that impose a place or tour on our travelers, that might create competitive behavior, or that may no longer exist due to changing circumstances. We want our travelers to enjoy their adventure with maximum freedom and flexibility – as individual as they are!

Do I have to purchase the Guide2Globe App?

We at Guide2Globe are proud to offer you a free travel tool that helps everyone to create their personal travel experience. You can find the app in the Google Play Store for Android users and the App Store for Apple users. The app is free to download, but we would greatly appreciate a positive review or feedback from you.

Why do I have to sign up for an account?

Once you download the app, Guide2Globe asks you to create an account to log in to the app. You can change your profile picture and collect guides from destinations you’ve visited in your account. Creating an account helps us gather statistics from our customers to see where you are coming from so we can customize the destinations we offer.

There is no better way to get authentic information about a place or travel experience than from locals or travelers. That’s why we want to provide you with a platform where you can share experiences, information, and recommendations with travelers like you. Please read the forum guidelines before you sign up. We expect respectful interaction with each other and ask you to add value to a post or topic and communicate with others as you wish and expect. After all, we all love the same thing – travel!
